What steps do I need to follow to start Flight Simulator training once the download is finished?

Expert Answered

Hi Anonymous,

Once MSFS finishes downloading, the training is started from inside the sim itself (it’s part of the in-sim menus). Here’s the usual path:

Step-by-step

  1. Launch Microsoft Flight Simulator.
  2. Let it fully load to the main menu (the first time can take a bit while it “finalizes” things).
  3. From the main menu, look for the section called Training (some builds label it as Flight Training).
  4. Pick a lesson (they start with the basics like camera/controls, straight-and-level, takeoff/landing, etc.) and select Start.

A couple quick “gotchas” if you can’t see Training

  • If you’re still in the initial setup screens (accessibility/controller setup), finish those first and you should land at the normal main menu.
  • If you installed the sim through Xbox/Microsoft Store/Steam, make sure the sim has fully updated (sometimes there’s a small update after the main download).
  • If you have “Offline” mode or no internet at the moment, some menu items can behave oddly—worth trying once you’re signed in and online.

To tailor this to your exact setup, can you tell me:

  • Are you on PC or Xbox?
  • Which version (Steam / Microsoft Store / Game Pass)?
  • When you get to the main menu, do you see a Training tile/section at all, or is it missing/greyed out?
  • Any error message after the download completes?
