When I file an IFR flight plan from KABE to KPHL I have it filed for an IFR approach yet when I take off and the tower tells me the airport runway number such as 9L instead of stating that it is to be an IFR landing it says I am to use a visible approach. I found this to be happening on several flight plans around the country. Is this a mistake in FS2004 that cannot be corrected.

it depends on the weather.I have been given a visual approach on the clear skys weather theme several times even though I picked IFR flight rules.but this should'nt happen all the time

In my experience some destinations in FS are notorious in this regard. I have tried in the past to bypass this what seems to me to be an anomaly. If I remember right, even approaching the same destination from a different airport or direction, ATC will still vector to the same Visual Appr..
I have tried occasionally to request a different Appr. from ATC but that always ended in disaster. In the end I gave up and now when it happens I just do the Visual. Lacking developing skills I don't know if a different AFCAD could solve the problem at any given airport.

Hi all who have answered my question. Well at least I have other people in the boat with me. Even using AFCAD and resetting everything didn't help so I am convinced there is nothing I can do as it is a problem with the FS program itself. Many thanks to all.

Radar contact, which i linked to in my first post (while admittedly being a smart-ass), is an incredibly well done add-on air traffic control program for flight sim. The voices sound a little goofy, but other than that it's pretty much perfect.

If you want you can still edit your post now for the benefit of others who might miss the link like I did Shocked

Just underlining the "Here's" will attract... like so: Here's Whistle

Now who's a smart-ass Razz

OT: I've never actually used RC due to its steep learning curve and my overcomplicated life... say, within the context of this topic, are you saying that if you request a different RWY, ATC will be more cooperative than the default ATC?

RC is great it sounds alot better than the default crap.....i remember someone telling me that if the weather is good majority of the time they will give you the clear to do a visual...that dosnt mean you have to not do an ILS i think its just letting you know that its clear enough to do the visual......
