Blackburn Beverley Upgrade to FS9
---------------------------------

Modifications by Kevin Kelleher from original FS2002 work by the Trans Global Aircraft team.

This entire product is freeware, includes the work of multiple authors and must not be sold under any circumstances. It may not be uploaded to any site other than ClassicBritishFiles.com without my specific permission.

Thanks for downloading this package. It contains three major changes to the excellent FS2002 Blackburn Beverley C Mk1 produced by Trans Global Aircraft:

1. A completely-revised Flight Dynamics package to allow the aircraft to perform well in FS2004; this has been produced with the assistance and advice of my father, who is a former Beverley pilot and instructor, 242 OCU and 47 Sqn.

2. A set of textures/repaint to represent aircraft XL150/K of 47 Sqn, RAF Abingdon, as it appeared in 1962. The aircraft bears both the 47 Sqn 'Nile' emblem and the Abingdon station crest, and also displays the specialised dayglo markings worn by a number of RAF aircraft in the early 1960's - specifically for aircraft which might use the Berlin Air Corridors.

3. A new instrument panel, based on the re-use of the majority of the instruments from the TGA panel, together with the recently-freeware photorealistic Alphasim bitmap. Some original instruments read incorrectly in FS9, so I have replaced them with alternatives.

Because so many elements are being changed, and further downloads are required in order to fully-populate the panel but not infringe copyright, the installation is a little more complex than my previous packages. Please take the time to read through all the steps involved.

Installation 1 : Flight Dynamics and 47 Sqn Repaint
---------------------------------------------------

Firstly, you'll need the FS2002 TGA Beverley by Ralph Pegram, Bob Hazeldine and Brian Horsey. This is available on Flightsim.com or directly from TGA at www.transglobalaircraft.co.uk.

Install the whole aircraft (three part download) in accordance with the TGA instructions - except, of course, you'll install it in FS9, not FS2002! Particularly, make sure that the gauges go into the FS9 "Gauges" folder, to ensure their availability to both the old and new panels.

I suggest that you retain a backup of the original package - you may want to return to it.

Next, install the new flight dynamics package. This consists of two files, BOTH of which are ESSENTIAL:

'Beverley.air' and 'aircraft.cfg'

Drop the 'Beverley.air' file into your Beverley aircraft folder, allowing overwriting.

Then, (if you wish to keep the original 30 Sqn MEAF paint or any other repaints you may have) open your ORIGINAL (TGA) 'aircraft.cfg' file and copy/paste the [fltsim.x] sections into the NEW 'aircraft.cfg' file. I have made the new 47 Sqn texture [fltsim.0], just so that the file will work 'as-is', but you can of course order the paints however you like as long as they follow the usual sequence, starting from '0','1','2'..... . Then drop the NEW 'aircraft.cfg' file into your Beverley aircraft folder, again allowing overwriting.

The next steps are simple: put the 'Texture.47' folder into your Beverley aircraft folder, and do likewise with 'Blackburn_Beverley_ref.htm'.

Now you're onto the final stretch, but it's a little more involved - it's the new panel:

Installation 2 : Instructions for the replacement Beverley panel:

Firstly, some further downloads MAY be required, depending on what you already have in your FS9 "Gauges' folder, but these are of other Classic British aircraft from the same era, so you'll probably want them anyway! I have not included them with the download as it would infringe on the authors' rights to control the distribution of their own hard work, which I fully support.

1. There are two vital flight instruments required from Rick Piper's excellent Varsity and Valetta: the ASI from the Valetta and the turn-and-slip from the Varsity. If you already have these aircraft, just make sure that their respective ".cab" gauge files are in the FS9 gauges folder. If you don't have the aircraft, they can be downloaded from www.classicbritishfiles.com:

The ASI replacement is necessary because the Beverley ASI gauge which comes with the original Trans-Global Aircraft panel misreads by about 10kt in FS9; the turn-and-slip replacement is to present a gauge closer in design to the real one.

2. You will also need John Hinson's Bristol Britannia panel (britpn2u.zip from Flightsim, or britpan2.zip from Avsim). Instruments required from this panel are:

JH.BritGenerator-3,
JH.BritGenerator-4,

all to be placed in either the main 'Gauges' folder, or the new Beverley panel folder.

3. Further highly recommended, although not absolutely essential, downloads are the Driftmeter (drift7.zip - Flightsim; Dave Bitzer) and Sextant (dc3_bbsx.zip - Flightsim; from Mark Beaumont/Dave Bitzer). They encourage the use of en-route navigational techniques actually used on the Beverley and the panel is already configured to accept them.

4. "Nick's Prop Dust" is also already programmed into both the new 'panel.cfg' and 'aircraft.cfg' files (the hard parts of installation!). Please install the "nn-gauges" folder (which comes with the "Nick's Prop Dust" download - npd_v2.zip from Flightsim) into your FS9 "Gauges" folder and you'll have big clouds of swirling dust/snow as appropriate when taking off from desert or snowy strips!

5. Finally, one of Rob Barendregt's superbly useful gauges is "SelectCorrect" (rcbse-10.zip from Flightsim). This is essential for those of you who would like part of the 'full-Beverley-experience' by shutting down/feathering/unfeathering/restarting individual engines. I won't repeat here Rob's excellent explanation of why it's necessary to install this gauge in some multi-engined aircraft (it's in his 'read-me'), but trust me, it's needed! Again, this gauge must be installed (inside its "rcb-gauges" folder, which it comes with - in accordance with Rob's instructions) into your FS9 "Gauges" folder: this is all you need to do - I've programmed its use into the panel.

Once all these are in place, you're ready to install the new panel. Assuming that you are using this panel together with the new Beverley Flight Dynamics for FS2004, all you need to do is to put the whole 'panel.new' folder into your 'Blackburn Beverley' aircraft folder. Please note that the 'panel.new' folder does contain SOME gauges (Mike Wagner's 'MAPE' series and John Hinson's 'jhclock', all of which the authors allow to be freely redistributed - thanks!). You can leave these gauges just where they are, or move them to the FS9 "Gauges" folder - your choice, but personally, I'd leave them where they are.

Incidentally, the MAPE gauges include both the prop feathering functions and the replacement boost gauges; the originals misread by several pounds. I have gone through just about every set of freeware boost gauges to find accuracy and appropriate scale range - these are the best available, although their style leaves something to be desired. As a further aside, some Beverleys at some times had boost gauges displaying in inches of boost rather than pounds - I have put some lines of code in the 'panel.cfg' file to aid those of you who would prefer that display: just change the '//' commenting-out as appropriate and make sure you have the 'MAPE_US4eng.gau' file.

Please DON'T rename the folder to 'panel' as my new 'aircraft.cfg' file is looking for 'panel.new'.

The majority of the gauges from the original FS2002 panel by Bob Hazeldine are reused in my panel, so you will need to have them already installed, in your FS9 "Gauges" folder. For old times' sake I have left the "Dishforth Map" option available on the panel - if you want it, please copy the file "Dishforth.bmp" across from the original Beverley panel folder.

I think that's it, but if I've left out a vital step, please raise it on the CBFS Forum: I'm sure that errors/omissions will be of interest to all.

Thanx for the info. The transglobal website has died an honorable death. The other info from Britsim is just an update for FS9. I'm afraid we've seen the last of the Blackburn Beverly in the Flight Sim world.

Found the 3 downloads. Also, found the FS9 conversion in BritSim. Finally, substituted WOP B-24 engine sound into the finished project. Thanx for help, TH!
