FSX “User Aircraft” label not showing – things to check
That checkbox only controls whether FSX is allowed to draw the label. A couple other settings can still prevent it from ever appearing.
1) Make sure you’re in the right view
The “User Aircraft” label won’t show in most cockpit views.
- Switch to an external view (Spot / Outside).
- Then re-check if the label appears above your aircraft.
2) Verify the label/ATC display options are enabled
Depending on the FSX version/settings state, the sim can have label display globally disabled even if “User Aircraft” is ticked.
- Go to Settings -> Display.
- Look for any options related to labels / info text and make sure they’re enabled.
3) Try resetting the display config (common fix)
If the display/labels settings in the config file are corrupted, the checkbox can “stick” but nothing draws.
- Close FSX.
- Find your FSX.cfg and rename it (so FSX builds a fresh one on next start).
Typical path is:
C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\FSX.cfg
After that:
- Start FSX (it will rebuild a new FSX.cfg).
- Go back into Settings and re-enable the “User Aircraft” label.
- Test in an outside view.
4) If you’re using add-ons, check for anything that hides labels
Some camera/view utilities and realism/tweaking packages can suppress default FSX labels. If you have anything like that installed, try a quick test with a default aircraft at a default airport and no extra tools running.
A couple quick questions so I don’t send you down the wrong path
- Which FSX do you have: FSX “boxed” (SP2/Acceleration) or FSX: Steam Edition?
- Are you trying to see the label in cockpit view or external view?
- Does it work for other aircraft (AI/traffic) labels, or are none of the labels showing at all?
