First step recommendations

Philip Palmer Guest

I have recently purchased FSX SE. I am a very novice flyer so as I was going through the mission the “out of the box” product was fine. Now that I have completed all of those, I am looking for recommendations on what you would suggest for the first add ons I should go after. As I am not an avid user, I will be sticking to freeware for the time being. Also, are there any free mission generators? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Firstly, welcome to Fly Away Simulation.

Have you checked out our mission section in the downloads library?

You can view that here:
https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/101/fsx-missions/

There are over 400 missions available right there and you don't even need to sign-up to download them.

Let us know how you enjoy them?

Also, you can expand your aircraft too. You can see the full range of FSX add-ons here:

Finally, this article may be helpful with installing the aircraft:

And here is our 2018 recommendation for freeware Steam Edition compatible add-ons:

I did read that article on the top downloads and think that will be helpful. Also, thank you for the tips on how to install the add ons. Are there any patches or updates I would need to allow these add ons to work?

If you have the Steam Edition of FSX then there are no patches such as SP1 or SP2 to install as they are already bundled with it. Also, Dovetail Games (who publish FSX: SE) have included some updates and bugfixes of their own.
