Is MSFS different from FS2004? I ask because FS2004 is what I run on Win 8.1 computer. I would like to use your downloads if there are any available for FS2004.
Thanks -- Bryan G.
Hi Bryan G.,
Yes, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (MSFS) and Flight Simulator 2004 (FS2004), also known as FS9, are quite different in terms of graphics, features, and system requirements. MSFS is the latest release in the series and offers substantial improvements over its predecessors, including FS2004.
As for downloads and addons, while the majority of content available on Fly Away Simulation is geared towards newer flight simulators, you can still find some addons for FS2004. You can browse the FS2004 section by visiting https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/fs2004/. Be sure to check compatibility and read the installation instructions carefully, as some addons may require additional steps or software to work correctly.
Add-ons designed for FS2004 are not compatible with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, as the two simulators have vastly different architectures, file formats, and system requirements.
MSFS has its own dedicated ecosystem of add-ons and mods, which take advantage of the new graphics engine, improved physics, and other advanced features unique to the latest release. Conversely, FS2004 add-ons were developed for the older platform and thus will not function in MSFS.
So, if you decide to transition to MSFS, you'll need to acquire new add-ons specifically created for it. On the bright side, there's an extensive and growing library of MSFS add-ons available on Fly Away Simulation and other sources, covering everything from aircraft and scenery to utilities and weather enhancements.
I hope this helps clarify the differences between MSFS and FS2004. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.
Happy flying!
