Erratic Throttle control of 172

Guest

I have always had erratic throttle control in the Cessna 172 with both sliders on Logitech and Microsoft joysticks, better but not perfect with the F3 key on the keyboard.  Advice?

Hello there!

It's a common issue that many users have faced with the Cessna 172 throttle control in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Based on your description, it seems that you've already experimented with different joystick brands (Logitech and Microsoft) and tried the F3 key. However, there are still a few approaches that you can take to address this issue.

Calibration: First, ensure that your joystick's throttle axis is calibrated properly. Both Windows and the simulator itself provide calibration options. To calibrate in Windows, navigate to the Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> right-click on your joystick -> Game Controller Settings -> Properties -> Settings -> Calibrate. Follow the instructions, and make sure to save the settings. For MSFS 2020, you'll need to go to Options -> Controls -> select your joystick -> click on Sensitivity and adjust the throttle axis sensitivity.

Deadzones: While in the sensitivity settings menu of MSFS 2020, try increasing the deadzone for the throttle axis. This can help minimize the erratic behavior of the throttle control when using the joystick.

Throttle Curve Adjustment: Some users have found success by adjusting the throttle curve. To do this, navigate to Options -> Controls -> select your joystick -> click on Sensitivity and adjust the throttle axis' response curve. You might need to experiment with different curves to find the one that works best for you.

Mapping Throttle Controls: If the above methods don't work, consider mapping the throttle control to different buttons or axes on your joystick. This might provide a more precise control over the throttle. To do this, go to Options -> Controls -> select your joystick -> search for "Throttle" and assign it to your desired button or axis.

Check for Updates: Make sure your joystick drivers and MSFS 2020 are up-to-date. Sometimes, erratic behavior can be resolved with driver or game updates.

Lastly, you might want to consider investing in a dedicated throttle quadrant, which is specifically designed for more accurate throttle control in flight simulators. Popular options include the Logitech G Flight Throttle Quadrant and the Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you need further assistance or if any of these solutions work for you. Happy flying!
