KFCN does not show in sim

MSFS Grand Canyon National Park Airport (KGCN) scenery does not show in the sim, I've extracted and installed the files to my community folder and restarted MSFS but the scenery fails to show. Back in FS2004; in some instances, you had to "prioritize" the add-on scenery so that it would be at a higher level than the default scenery, however, MSFS2020 doesn't appear to have this feature. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello fellow aviator,

Your conundrum with the Grand Canyon National Park Airport (KGCN) in MSFS 2020 is something we've all grappled with at some point. I'm glad you've raised this concern here because this has been an issue for quite a few users.

Let's begin by unpacking your situation. You have successfully extracted and moved the files to your community folder (this is where MSFS 2020 looks for add-on content), and yet the add-on scenery refuses to materialize within your simulation environment. An interesting part is your reference to the "priority setting" we used to have back in the FS2004 days. Indeed, MSFS 2020 operates differently and doesn't have this feature.

  1. First and foremost, it's critical to verify that the folder structure within the community directory is correct. This is something we often overlook, but it could be the root cause. After extracting, the mod folder (KGCN scenery) should be directly inside the Community folder. Inside this mod folder, you should find a 'manifest.json' file. If this file is buried within another subfolder, the sim won't detect the mod.
  2. Next, consider looking into the presence of any conflicting mods. While the simulator lacks an explicit 'priority setting', it does process the mods in alphabetical order. So, if there is another mod (starting with a letter before 'K') which modifies the same region, it could overshadow our KGCN mod.
  3. Another thing to check would be the version compatibility. The mod you're trying to install might be outdated, and it could be incompatible with your current MSFS 2020 version. Always try to use the latest version of mods, as these are the most likely to be compatible with the latest simulator updates.

If none of these solutions resolve the issue, it may be useful to delete the mod from your Community folder, download a fresh copy, and reinstall it. Here is the link to download the Grand Canyon National Park Airport (KGCN) scenery mod again.

Lastly, remember that developers and the community are continuously working to make the simulator better, and sometimes, this results in unintended hiccups. Should the issue persist, it's always worth reaching out to the developer of the mod for possible solutions.
