Are the following GPWS callouts possible in FSX Gold: "pull up, whoop whoop", "caution terrain", "windshear", "bank angle", "glideslope", 2500-10FT, and "obstacle ahead"?

GPWS callouts in FSX “Gold” – what’s possible (and what isn’t)

In default FSX Gold, you’re pretty limited on GPWS/EGPWS realism. FSX itself doesn’t simulate a full Honeywell-style EGPWS logic set (terrain database, predictive windshear, “obstacle ahead,” etc.), so most of the callouts you listed won’t be generated by the core sim alone.

Here’s how it typically breaks down:

1) What FSX can do natively (basic / aircraft-dependent)
FSX can play some “altitude callouts” and a few simple warnings, but they’re not a full EGPWS suite and they vary a lot by aircraft/add-on.

  • “2500…10” style radio altimeter callouts: Sometimes (usually if the aircraft/add-on specifically includes them).
  • “Glideslope” warning: Sometimes (again, usually aircraft/add-on logic rather than FSX itself).

If you’re flying the default FSX jets, don’t expect a full set of airline-style callouts.

2) What FSX generally cannot do by itself
These are the ones that need advanced logic (and usually a terrain/obstacle model that FSX’s stock warning system simply doesn’t provide in an EGPWS way):

  • “Pull up, whoop whoop”
  • “Caution terrain”
  • “Obstacle ahead”
  • Predictive “Windshear”
  • “Bank angle” (proper envelope-based callouts)

You can sometimes get some of these from a high-end aircraft add-on that includes its own GPWS/EGPWS simulation, but it’s not something you “switch on” in FSX Gold globally.

3) The practical way people get realistic callouts in FSX

  1. Use an aircraft add-on that includes a custom GPWS/EGPWS implementation (the aircraft does the work, not FSX).
  2. If you only care about altitude callouts, some add-ons include configurable callout sets even if they don’t do full terrain/windshear logic.

A couple quick questions so I can point you the right way

  • Which aircraft are you trying to get these callouts in (default 737/747/Airbus, or a specific payware plane)?
  • Are you on FSX boxed Gold/Acceleration, or FSX:SE?
  • Are you looking for just the sounds (callouts) or do you want the callouts to trigger correctly based on proper EGPWS logic (terrain closure rate, excessive descent rate, etc.)?

Answer those and I can tell you what’s realistic to expect with your specific aircraft, and what your best “FSX-era” options are.
