Issue in the "Lonesome Lake Hut" mission

When I fly the Lonesome Lake Hut mission, the lake is missing.

I fly to the GPS location shown in the program, but there is no lake.
It looks like no scenery loads there.

Notes

  • This uses a self-extracting installer.
  • I also had to make it compatible with Windows 10.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Lonesome Lake Hut mission – lake missing at the GPS spot

That usually comes down to one of three things in MSFS.
Either the add-on scenery did not install to the right place, it’s not being loaded, or something else is overriding it.

1) Confirm the add-on is actually loading

  • Check you have the package in your MSFS Community folder (or your custom Community path).
  • Make sure it is not sitting one folder too deep (a very common extractor issue).
  • The folder you drop in Community should contain things like layout.json and manifest.json at its top level.

If those two JSON files are not at the top level, MSFS may ignore the scenery.

2) Verify install location (self-extracting installers often guess wrong)

  • Run the installer again, but point it manually to your actual Community folder.
  • Avoid installing into the MSFS “Packages” root folder by mistake.
  • If you use MS Store/MS Xbox app version, your Community path is often different from Steam.

3) Check for conflicts or overrides

  • Temporarily move all other add-ons out of Community.
  • Leave only this mission/scenery installed.
  • Restart MSFS and re-try the mission.

If the lake appears then, it’s a conflict.
Most often it’s another mesh, terrain, or “world” scenery in the same area.

4) Make sure the sim is streaming scenery properly
If you see “no scenery loads there”, it can also be streaming.
Try this quick test:

  • Load into that area in free flight, same aircraft.
  • Pause for a minute after spawning to let terrain settle.
  • If the ground stays generic or empty, check your Data settings and connection.

5) About the Windows 10 compatibility setting
Compatibility mode can cause weird permission and path issues.
If you set it on the installer, fine.
But avoid setting compatibility mode on FlightSimulator.exe itself.

A few quick questions so we can narrow it down

  • Are you on Steam MSFS or MS Store/MS Xbox version?
  • Where did the installer place the files (exact folder path)?
  • In the installed add-on folder, do you see layout.json and manifest.json at the top level?
  • Do you have any other scenery/mesh installed for that region?
