OK I've seen this before and can't remember the answer at all and it's doing my head in. Here's the riddle
3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM. A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5. ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.
THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.
WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?
You don't add the 2$ to the 27$, you have to subtract the 2$ from the 27$ dollars which makes it 25 dollars.
SO 25(room price)+2(bell boy)+3(change)=30 😉
Cheers GM,
As soon as I saw your answer it all came back to me.
Years ago,I had someone at the kitchen table with pennies trying to figure out the workings of the riddle. 🙂 I love this one. The way that it's presented makes it seem that each man paid $9 but they each paid $8.333 (8.333 x 3 =24.999) $25. That's after each gets their portion of the $5 ($1.666). 🙂 Hotel-$25, rebate to 3 men-$3, Bellboy-$2 =$30.
It's clever and makes you think.
man, i always end up reading these posts when i am too tired to do so!!
