The UKs largest crane is coming to town and will arrive in Newport aboard 48 lorries (thats going to mess up my trip to and from work )
The crane will be used to help in the completion of a footbridge across the river Usk
Trying to find pics of this beast was tuff, but I found a couple
I think this is the same one
And a pic of a model replica
I will try and grab a few shots of the thing going up
Huge , that's, as you say, going to cause problems for quite a while.
going to cause problems for quite a while
You might want to call your boss ahead of time!!!
on the other hand, you could have a good excuse for being late...
Can't imagine what it would cost to hire that beast.
Looks like it will not be going up tomorrow after all
Drove past today and only 2 sections of the crane have been put together.
Loads of activity there, and a few smaller cranes waiting to put it all together.
The box girder constrution being the giant crane
I still can quite work it out yet
Pics from a camera phone when anything good starts Ill take take a proper camera
And what it should look like
More as and when
That's a hell of a crane
How does it turn? It's all wheels! You guys don't have room over there on your roads for something like that to turn any corners! Cool machine.
The box girder section is to support the back facing mast of the bridge
Pics to follow soon
Ok a few more pics
1st this morning and the "back" mast is up and supported by the large box girder construction on the left. The front mast being positioned for lifting
