Ok here goes
I'm running Flight simulator X and when I go to the default 747 virtual cockpit mode I can't see the Autopilot button. However in 2D cockpit mode their is a button for Autopilot on the panel 
Is the Autopilot switch located somewhere else in the 3D mode ❓
