Nice find, RadarMan. I remember that Orion package being one of the better “all-in-one” FS9 classics — lots of little extras without being a handful to fly.
If anyone grabs p-3c2k2.zip and something doesn’t behave (common with older FS2004 releases), here are a few practical checks that usually sort it out:
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- Make sure the aircraft folder is in the right place:
...\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft\
(and that the panel/sound/texture folders are inside that aircraft folder, not nested one level too deep after unzipping).
- If the panel loads “black” or with missing gauges, confirm the panel folder actually contains .CAB and/or .GAU files, and that they’re not sitting loose in a separate “Gauges” folder inside the download.
- For effects like engine smoke and any special door animations, confirm the effects got copied into:
...\Flight Simulator 9\Effects\
Some older zips include an “Effects” folder that you have to merge manually.
- If the bomb-bay door or other animated bits don’t move, double-check you’re using the right key assignments in FS9 (and that you haven’t reassigned them). Sometimes the readme calls one key, but the model is actually tied to a standard FS control.
Also, on the “fast” comment — the P-3 can feel a little lively in FS9 if you’re used to heavier iron. I’ve had better results flying it more like a turboprop transport: keep the power changes smooth and don’t yank it around on approach.
If anybody runs into a specific snag, post back with:
- Your FS2004 version (9.0 or 9.1 update)
- What exactly isn’t working (panel, smoke, doors, missing textures, etc.)
- Any error message text, if you get one
…and I’ll help you narrow it down.
