When an airline changes an aircraft for a few day does that airline have to tell the airport. For example Cathay 831 (KJFK to VHHH) is regularly run by an Airbus A340-600. If Cathay Pacific changed the aircraft to a Boeing 747-400 for a day b./c the A346 was getting maintenance done do they need to notify JFK?

Unless the new aircraft can't use the same gates that the airline normally uses, no, they don't.
