PMDG auto trottle question

NSX Guest

Hi all, after having learned to get around pretty good with the Level-D I got the PMDG 747 for a new challenge. But one thing I can't figure out, the auto-trottle.

When taking of in the Level-D I would advance to 70 % N1 and stabelize, the hitting the n1 button with auto trottle on and away she goes. But in PMDG nothing seems to activate it. Auto-trottle on, FD on, it won't take over the trottles until airborne. What am I doing wrong?

Wish I could help you there, but I'm having the same problem as I've forgotten alot about flying the beast [I've been away from the flightsim for a while].

There is a small screw type thing on the MCP at the upper left corner..They have modelled it there..May be you shud refer in the manuals or Type rating course by PMDG on 747-400.It also applies to 737..Hope this helps.

Thanks I'll try it as soon as I get home from work. Other one, what does that THR button do then? I thought that was it.

Got home, tried it, and succes, thanks a lot to_coolguys! 😀
That screw thingy took the big bird of the ground with a big roar 🙂
Why would they model that screw for that function, seems odd to me? What function is for the THR button then? If you can answer these questions too, you will make my day.

The TO/GA switch is on the throttles for 747..Since it was not convenient to put it there in the simulation they mapped it to a screw on MCP for convenience... But you should hit the TOGA before the plane achieves 50knots else you will have to push the throttles manually.I do not know about THR and I never used it in my flights..May be its time for you to tell me about THR..lol...

Ok to_coolguys, digged up what THR does:

THR Switch: If current mode is FLCH, SPD, VNAV SPD, VNAV PTH, VNAV ALT or TO/GA, pressing the THR switch changes the thrust limit to the CLB thrust setting. This setting will be displayed on the Primary EICAS. This does not affect the autothrottle mode, but changes the thrust limit allowed.

If any other mode is currently selected, pressing THR will select the autothrottle THR REF mode and the throttles advance to the currently displayed thrust limit. Pressing switch will not illuminate light bar.
Inhibited below 400 feet AGL.

So now I hope you're helped with that 😉

This came out of the manual 😛
