Yes, indeed! Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) comes with a time acceleration feature that enables you to speed up the simulation time. To access this functionality, you can use the following keyboard command: R + PLUS (the plus key).

The FSX time acceleration feature essentially acts like a 'fast forward' button, allowing you to expedite long haul flights or circumvent extensive stretches of nothingness that can sometimes be part of the flight simulation experience.

Steps to engage time acceleration in FSX:

  • Press R key to engage the time compression mode.
  • Then press the PLUS key to increase the time acceleration rate. You can press it multiple times to further increase the rate (up to 16x).
  • Conversely, if you wish to slow down time acceleration or return to real-time, press the MINUS key.

A small point of clarification: the PLUS and MINUS keys referred to here are on the main body of the keyboard, not on the numeric keypad.

Now, if you're also using more recent platforms like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or X-Plane 12, the time acceleration function exists as well. However, the key bindings may vary and you might need to refer to their respective manuals or settings to check the exact keys to use.

Just remember, from my knowledge, time acceleration can sometimes cause slight instability in the simulator's performance, especially when used at high rates. Therefore, use it sparingly and cautiously.

Happy flying!
