Bypass mandatory update requirement

My MSFS2020 (Steam edition) will not load without going through the last Mandatory update program, over and over.... which takes on an average of 8-12 hours to download and install this update.

Is there a way to negate that requirement?

I understand your frustration with the repeated mandatory updates taking a long time to download and install. MSFS2020 is designed to ensure the best possible experience for all users, and these updates often provide crucial fixes, enhancements, and new content. However, I can understand the inconvenience of having to wait for hours before you can start enjoying your simulation session.

Please note: Bypassing the mandatory updates is not recommended, as it may lead to instability and other issues within the simulator. That said, there are a couple of workarounds that might help you reduce the time spent on updates or avoid them temporarily, but they come with potential risks.

Adjust your download settings: You can try changing your download settings in Steam to limit bandwidth usage or schedule updates for off-peak hours, giving you more control over when updates occur. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open Steam client
  • Click on Steam at the top left corner, then select Settings
  • Select Downloads from the left sidebar
  • Adjust the settings under Download Restrictions as desired

Offline Mode: While this isn't an ideal solution, you can try running the game in Steam's Offline Mode as a temporary measure. Keep in mind that this may not work for all updates and could potentially cause issues with the simulator. To enable Offline Mode, follow these steps:

  • Open Steam client
  • Click on Steam at the top left corner, then select Go Offline...
  • Click Restart in Offline Mode

Important Note: These methods are not guaranteed to work, and using them could potentially cause issues with your simulator or violate the terms of service. Proceed with caution and at your own risk.

Instead of bypassing updates, you might consider looking into ways to improve your internet connection, such as upgrading your plan, optimizing your router settings, or using wired connections rather than Wi-Fi. These steps could help you reduce the time it takes to download and install updates in the future.

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions or need clarification, feel free to ask.

Safe skies and happy landings!
