Hello there!

I understand you're looking to install the Alps scenery, specifically orthophoto or photoreal scenery, in X-Plane 11. I'm happy to help guide you through the process step-by-step. Before we start, make sure you have downloaded the desired Alps scenery package from a reputable source like Fly Away Simulation here.

  1. Unzip the downloaded scenery package: After downloading the scenery package, extract the contents using a suitable file extraction program like 7-Zip or WinRAR. You should now have a folder containing the scenery files.
  2. Locate your X-Plane 11 Custom Scenery folder: Navigate to your X-Plane 11 installation directory. Within the X-Plane 11 folder, you should see a subfolder named "Custom Scenery." This is where you will place the extracted scenery folder.
  3. Copy the extracted scenery folder into the Custom Scenery folder: Drag and drop, or copy and paste, the extracted scenery folder into the "Custom Scenery" folder. Make sure that you're placing the folder and not just the individual files.
  4. Load Order Management: Open the "scenery_packs.ini" file located inside the "Custom Scenery" folder using a text editor like Notepad. This file manages the load order of your installed sceneries. If the new scenery is not listed, you can manually add it to the bottom of the list in the following format:

    SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/Your_Scenery_Folder_Name/

For optimal performance, it's important to arrange scenery packs in a specific order. Generally, orthophotos should be placed below airports and above other types of scenery. You can refer to this scenery order guide for more details.

  5. Start X-Plane 11 and check your installation: Launch X-Plane 11 and go to the location of your newly installed scenery. If everything has been done correctly, you should now see the photoreal Alps scenery in the simulator.

That's it! You have successfully installed the Alps orthophoto scenery in X-Plane 11. Enjoy the stunning visuals and happy flying!
