A very good friend davec, without me even hinting that I would like a new paint job on my DC-3 just sent this to me.
Thank you Dave, your a true gentleman, they don't make them like you any longer.
All my best to you and your family!
😂 I like it. Your own personal airliner.
I knew about this craft excistance(you have told me so RadarMan)the only thing that remaining was to see it...And its a real beauty ❗ ❗ ❗ .Great Job from Mr Davec.
I havent the lucky to meet him cause im new here but i have read lot of his posts and i figure out that he was a great and kind man.
I wish for his comeback.
Hey Radarman
Do you just use the DC3 that comes with the game or do you have a magic spoecial fancy version?
I am thinking about doing some flights in the DC3 soon.. got any tips for flying her? I haven't really flown anything with more than one engine before :s
I wanted to use a C-47 paint job with invasion stripes etc.. i am sure I saw a repaint somewhere...

The stock DC3 in FS2004 doesn't have very good flight characteristics, the file afm fs2004 dc3.zip turns the DC3 into the flyer it should be. There is a repaint in invasion colors, it is of the Tico Belle which is in Titusville Florida and the plane did take part in the Normandy invasion. I don't have the file name for it and I don't remember where I found it.
Thanks warhawk I will search about for the repaint.. i know I saw one somewhere
Where do I get the file you speak of to alter the flight characteristics?
Your are very lucky to have your own virtual airline RadarMan!! 🙂
Insight,
This is the default aircraft with the new paint. There is a default invasion (C-47) texture at flightsim...I think.
RadarMan,
You know that we are all jealous....Don't you...???
😀 No more sneaking about in that dirty old grey thing. Now we will know its you 😂
Very nice Dave, hope you are well 😉
Congratulations RadarMan and great work there by Davec! 🙂
I don't know of to many people who get a custom paint DC-3 as a gift from a friend. -Davec very cool in his posts and indeed.

I don't know where I downloaded the file from. If all else fails and you can't find it you can private message me and I will email it ro you.
Here is the readme file.................
AUTHENTIC FLIGHT MODEL VERSION 1.0
MICROSOFT DOUGLAS DC-3 (FS2004 ONLY)
6:18 PM 12/19/2003
This flight model was developed to replace the stock Microsoft Douglas DC-3 aircraft in Flight Simulator 2004. It was created using the Authentic Flight Model method, which uses a wind tunnel program to analyze the airfoil and compute the coefficients of lift, lift curve, drag, and aircraft pitch moment with a great degree of accuracy.
Highlights of this flight model include the following enhancements:
-- Virtual Wind Tunnel analysis of the NACA 2200 series airfoil used on this aircraft
-- Corrected fuel capacity (from 604 to 820 gallons)
-- Corrected horsepower, torque, and thrust
-- Accurate top speed, rate of climb, and cruise speeds
-- Corrected payload placement for a more accurate CG
With this flight model, the stock DC-3 is now a stable, predictable aircraft with the docile, forgiving flight dynamics for which it was so well-known, and its performance now matches its real-world counterpart.
The revised performance figures are reflected in the new checklist and reference sheet; just refer to these documents for this information.
INSTALLATION
Back up all files to be replaced before proceeding.
Simply copy the files in this archive to the folder "Douglas_DC3" which is located in the "aircraft" folder in the main Flight Simulator 9 directory. The old files will be overwritten with the new ones.

You are quite welcome. I had the file for the repaint you want but I didn't have it saved to CD and I had a major puter crash.........darn it. If you happen to locate it before I do would you notify me?
I lived about 15 miles south of the Tico airport where Tico Belle is hangered. I haven't been up in Tico Belle but I have been in it.
Here is a picture of Tico Belle.
If you would all like to fly Radarman's DC-3 - you might just be in time to download it at -
but you haven't got much time!!!
I'm jealous of RadarMan
Let's go and kidnap his airplane

You made me laugh with your post, RadarMan.
Can I, at least, have a ride in your airplane? 😉

If he won't take us for a ride we will let the air out of his tires.🙂
Agus, WarHawk,
Sure, you can go for a ride, come with me. I'm delivering cargo to Beirut.
You stopping there before or after you stop in Baghdad?lol
Dave did a wonderful job on that!
Radarman, next time you're talking to Dave, please give him my best. I haven't spoken to him in a while.
Chris I certainly will, although I have the feeling he sneaks a peek at this site occasionally.
WarHawk, I meant Baghdad, I blew the gag.

Radarman did you catch the new textures for the Waco? They look nice.
Hi Warhawk...
I found the Tico Belle for you on av sim!!!
The file is 5MB - I don't know if you're a member at avsim or not so let me know if you need to and I will host it for you to download!
🙂
w00t i've finally been useful on this forum!

Thanks, as long as I know where it is I can find it and download it. I just couldn't remember what site I had found it on.
You did the hard part, finding what site it was on.🙂
🍻
WarHawk
Thanks for sending the DC3 upgrade. Took it up for a spin in invasion colors (make that a C-47) been a while since I have flown in this one. Works great! Makes me want to take a trip or two with so little time so many to fly.
Thanks again 😀
RM congrats on new paint job.

I know of a couple of the original planes that don't fly like they should. The DC3 was one of them, the Piper Cub is another. There is a file for the Cub to that cures the problems with it.
The DC3 is a whole different plane with that upgrade.
The picture I posted of the Tico Belle is the real Tico Belle.

Ya I am flying her as we speak. Do you know where I can get my hands on the file for the Cub? With the origional I have one heck of a time landing in a cross wind, would like to update and give it a try.
I did run across a Cub Classic thats pretty nice.

The file name is DF_Piper_J3Cub, I don't remember where I downloaded it from. I would email it to you but I don't think it would, the file is 10 megs.
WarHawk
I have been searching of and on for the file you mensioned (DF_Piper_J3Cub) avsim flightsim etc. no luck 😞
Do you have any suggestions or hints to help me in my search.
Thanks

You have a PM.
Excuse me for butting in, have followed topic with interest, and found the DC3 improvement zip at FSwarbirds.com, and what a great selection they have.
Hope you don't mind Insight, but it was mainly your doing, you praised the Spitfire you have, so I had to have one, VG. So pleased that I followed you on choice for the DC3, another great old timer, done a few airmiles in those.
Only bird now on my list is the Lancaster, and I want the best. We have the real UK one just a few miles away at Conningsby, which frequently comes over where we live. Have my binos close at hand, and dash outside to view it when ever it goes over. I used to drive a refueling tanker for the Lancs, Forts, and Mozzies at Scampton. UK. Too many years ago.
Sorry to waffle on.......
wow Kentel - that must have been quite some job!
I am glad you tried the Spitfire and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I have!
I had an email conversation with the Real Air chaps trying desperately to pursuade them to make a Mosquito or a Beaufighter but apparently there is no money in the market for Warbirds 😞

It seems most of the design work goes towards commercial jets, at least that is the impression I get when I search through files. I have downloaded quite a few planes and kept very few of them and I hesitate to go to payware not being assured it would be worth keeping.
It seems like the majority of the posters here fly commercial jets and if that is what is selling then I guess that is what the designers will be producing.

Hi Warhawk42 and Insight, talking of Mozzies, I downloaded a freeware one yesterday, think it was from AVSIM, file was GVdHmosquito.zip, not a bad one, seems to fly well, but rather drab colours. Can't remember off hand, but think it was African?
In my searches for planes I have run across the Mosquito but I don't remember where I saw it. It may be the same file you have.
That was quite an airplane and one of my favorite English planes of WW2.
Must put the record straight. I downloaded the Mozzie from same place as the DC3, FSwarbirds.com. And now I must go back there, as I saw some other interesting birds there.
Have you had a look at http://www.simviation.com ? In the Vintage section under FS2004 they have allsorts of warbirds including Lancaster, Manchester and 1 or 2 Mosquitos. Don't know how good they are, just highlighting the fact that they are there.
trouble is Kentel..
after flyig that Real Air spit... nothing else compares 😞
Thats why I was begging them to do a Mossie lol
I agree Insight, I just downloaded the free Lanc from simviation, which has no panels or sound, these are added downloads from other sources.
Installed it all, luvly no! It can't even get off the ground, max speed on runway under 100kias, not enough I'm thinking to get airborne. Graphics and sound OK. Actually the sound is the best part, very good.
Now I just wonder, being a relative newbie to airsims, maybe I'm missing something.
Kentel - if your looking for a good Lancaster take a look at Plane Design's version - comes complete with pilots and FE's notes and has engineers panel etc. Its payware but worth it.
You can get several 'heavies' with the "Wings Of Power" add on..
I put the lanc in and was disappointed cos of my Spitfire 😞
didn't get to try any of the others flown as I havent had time

Hi verygom, I have been looking at that, but the paying system looks a bit odd. Anyway, I gave it another go, and have eventually managed to pay OK.
And it is a brilliant sim, about as near as you could get to the real plane I think. Controls and flying action, very satisfying, I'm very pleased with it. And Insight, this one is a good match for the Spitfire as a sim plane.
Wonderful for low and slow, and circuits and bumps, (touch and go), great fun. I've tried it at a couple of fields fascinating.
Thanks Guys for your help, etc.
Ken.
KenTel - glad you got there - enjoy! I think the sim Merlins sound pretty close to the real thing. See you over the Mohne dam perhaps 😉 - maybe Insight can escort us in his Spit as far as his range allows! 😂
heh, maybe i should get it and we could try some formation flying in the lancs and get a few screenies 🙂
With some of my flying that might have to be "loose" formation 😂 😂
Now that sounds very hi tech to me, I've seen the multi-player option, but for the life of me, haven't a clue how that can work. But must admit it has an attraction.
I assume we can see each others bird, on our own monitors. But expect we also need very good net connections, I'm on BB(ADSL), and have been told that it is going up to 2Mb in speed shortly, at present on 512. But was also told it depends on good ole' BT.
As for flying in loose formation, I would have to fly sooo loose, I'd fall apart. 😂 😂
Just had a thought, have got three comps running here, two are mine, t'other is 'er indoors. I've built them all, also got a working LapTop, could probably get a squadron up in the air with that lot, install fs2004 on each one, now there's a thought. All I need is about another 100 flying hrs. 😂
I play IL2 a fair bit and I love playing WWII Online, which as crap as it looks is bloody fantastic to play
my fave thing to do is fly in formation en route to target and back 🙂
I was looking at IL2, at least I think it was, in our local supermarket, last week, priced at £3.99p. Almost bought it, but the wife said, "you've enough B......... toys without anymore". Well she knows I'm in my second childhood, at nearly 77 you need something to keep your mind working, nothing else does........... 😂 😂
