I keep seing posts about meshes and megascenery this or that. I'm just wondering what everyone thinks the best scenery add on they have bought, or are just dying to buy, is.
What would you most like to lighten your bank account and fill your hard drive?
❓
😀 I hear that the MegaScenery collection is very good for the USA
The UK has VFR(which works in fs9)and I have bought two of the set
The only problem with VFR Scenery is it only shows up in day light so night flying is out.
In my opinion any mesh that you can get(most of it is free)will realy enhance the fs9 standard scenery no end without hitting framerates
There are some payware mesh's and I have one called European Enhanced Terrain Which covers all the UK and Europe which is great as its all on one CD
So I would go for any mesh you can find for your favorite area
TTT
If I may, a friend of mine (yes I have a friend) has installed most of this site "freeware" and is quite happy with it.

Yes...the FSGenesis mesh is very good indeed! There are still small probems here and there, where default lakes, rivers, and/or airports are at incorrect elevations, resulting in some of these being either sunken into the ground or raised above it when the more accurate mesh is present. These instances are quite rare though, and sometimes can be fixed with "flatten" files that some people create for us.
Due to a "Galaxy" membership, I have nearly all of the FSGenesis mesh installed; the only exception being the Himalayas mesh, which looks great at the lower elevations, but the high Himalayan peaks are disappointing. My solution, until Justin is able to adjust the Himalaya mesh, is to use Martin Domig's freeware mesh for Nepal. It's quite good! I found it at the FSFreeware.com site, and I think the file name is: nepalmsh.zip. Also at the FSFreeware site are some airport enhancements for Nepal that work well with Domig's mesh. I think they're mentioned on the download page for the mesh.
A couple notes about the FSGenesis freeware:
The freeware files are, in most cases, small sections of the larger areas covered in the payware mesh. Also, the freeware files are offered "as is", whereas if one has purchased the payware products, updates and bug fixes are made available from time to time.
Oh...and if you like mountains, here's more nice freeware:
Mt. St. Helens 19m mesh: sthelens19.zip, found at FSFreeware.com
Holger Sandmann has a few very nice mesh/scenery files available at avsim.com. His latest, just released a few days ago, is for the North Cascades region of WA state (us_wa_nc.zip). He also has very nice mesh/scenery files for Bella Coola, BC (bc_bella.zip), and two nice files for Glacier Bay, AK:
gl_bay_1.zip
gl_bay_2.zip
One of my more recent scenery add-ons is the "Orcas Island Georender" scenery from FSAddon. It's great!
Another nice freeware enhancement is "Airport Environment Upgrade v6". The file name is: aeu6.zip (I'm pretty sure that's what it is), and this can be found at avsim.com. If you do use this one, I would also recommend using "rlights.zip" (also found at avsim.com). This contains a replacement for the "halo.bmp" file, and makes the runway lights clearer.
And of course, we can't forget the moon and stars. There's a very nice star replcement (replaces the "stars.dat" file). You can get this one here:
https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/2760/real-stars-for-fs2002-and-fs2004/
{note} I've removed the first link I posted for the stars.dat file, as it seems to be a bad download link. If you try to download it, some silly shooting game movie is downloaded instead. In any event, the link I've left here for stars.dat v1.0 is good, and it's the one I'm using in my fs2004.
For the moon, there's "HDMoon". File name is: hdmoon.zip. You can find this here. It was created for fs2002, but works well in fs2004 as well:
https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/2761/fs2002-photoreal-moon-texture/
I have several other bits and pieces of add-on scenery installed, but the few I've mentioned are at least a good start! 😀
getting great feedback so far, thank you all very much 😀
Anyone know where I can get some good Texas scenery. Mostly looking for Dallas/Ft Worth and Austin areas for FS2004.
