I didn't expect to see the Corsair 747-400...i'vre never seen this plane at BHX before. There was actually another Corsair 747 on the ramp...a -300. If anyone knows why these where here, i'd be glad of any info. With all the finals on this weekend...rugby and football, I thought maybe it was a special charter....it certainly isn't a scheduled service 😉

You don't see many 747s in Birmingham because the runway length is 8500 feet, so the aircraft has to be fairly light in order to take off safely. Seeing as the 747 is used for long haul with lots of fuel and passengers, then it is rarely light, so rarely goes to smaller airports - so yes, I would have thought that it would be a charter flight to cope with extra demand for something 😉
