This question been bugging me for years now but I never thought to ask here. So here it is.
I noticed on vatsim and flight sim I heard people say with Information X-ray or Whisky etc. I have no idea what it means, please help...
This is the identification code (phonetic alphabet) of the current weather conditions, broadcast by ATIS. They give it a code so a pilot can say they have the information (i.e. Golf Romeo Mike has information Bravo) which is easily verified by ATC. If an aircraft replies having information other than that, that is current then they will inform the aircraft in question 😉
To my knowledge 🙄 , when the pilot states what info he has, i.e. a letter in the phonetic alphabet, he is telling the controller what ATIS he has listened to. If he says he has "information X-ray" and this is the latest ATIS the controller will verify this, however if its not the latest he will be rquired to listen to "information zulu".
😉
AHHHHHHHH 🙂) Thanx Alot for clearing that up pretty simple really You Gotta Love these forums. Takes ten mins tops to get any question answered 🙂
Just to add, ATIS updates once per hour or when there is any significant weather change 😉
