I have been playing with flight simulator 2004 for some time know without ever taking any of the lessons, so I thought it's about time to actually learn to naviagte with my instruments rather that doing these direct GPS flights and visual manual landings. So I'm back in ground school and the first lesson after one has earns thier private liscence is VOR navigation. Ok, maybe I'm dumb but I don't get it! Is there anyone out there who can lead me in the right direction to learn this VOR stuff, is thier a VOR Guise for Dummies? Thanks for any help, D

This website is a great learning aid.
Here's a very good site about VOR navigation:

Once you have finished reading that you can start practicing with the VOR Simulator:
😉
Think of the VOR as 360 "tracks" over the ground. You can tune in any one of those 360 tracks or "radials" by using the OBS knob on the VOR indicator. Always read the radials FROM top TO bottom. If your flying away FROM the VOR (little white triangle on the VOR indicator pointing down) then read the radial at the top VOR indicator. If your flying TO the VOR (little white triangle on the VOR indicator pointing UP) then read the radial on the bottom of the VOR indicator. Always read your COURSE at the top of the indicator.
Read RADIALS - FROM TOP / TO BOTTOM on the VOR indicator.
ALWAYS Read your COURSE on the TOP of the VOR indicator.
A standard VOR indicator has 10-dots on the CDI (5-dots L/R of center).
The dots represent 2-degrees each L/R of COURSE.
Each dot is worth a distance equal to:
VOR distance or DME / 30
ALWAYS - ALWAYS - ALWAYS observe propper orientation on the VOR indicator. TO flag when oriented TO the VOR & FROM flag when oriented FROM the VOR.
