how do i get to turn on push back i no its shift and p but when i press 1 or 2 or 3 nothing ever happens how do i do it?

the shift p + 1/2 works best with the default planes and freeware addon aircraft but i've noticed that with payware addons like pmdg 777, aerosoft a320 (that have built in pushback systems) it RARELY works.
