Flight Simulator 2004 - Compatible Joysticks

Hi
Wonder if anyone can help - I bought my son the above game, and got the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro Plus joystick which I had to also buy the gameport to USB interface.
The Joystick does not work with this interface.
Does anyone know is there a specific gameport to USB connector that works with the Joystick ?
Does the Joystick work with XP
Finally if neither of tha above are any good - which Joystick should one buy as an alternative.
Any help appreciated

i don't even think that it works with XP. i wold recommend the cheap one from Logitech. That's the one that I've used for the past two years, and it works magnificently. it's only around 30 bucks too!
