Is there a way to enter LAT / LON coordinates for an arbitrary point? Inotherwords, I'd like to enter LAT / LON for my house on the GPS in FS2004 etc.

Not with the GPS. You can create a custom waypoint in the flight planner but it's not simple. Go to [The learning Center][Using the Flight Planner] for the details.
