Hello fellow flight sim enthusiast!

Your interest in using the Oculus Rift S with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 (FS2004) is quite understandable as the virtual reality (VR) experience can add a whole new level of immersion to flight simulation. However, I'm afraid that there isn't any native support or easy solution to integrate FS2004 with the Rift S directly. FS2004 was developed long before the advent of consumer VR technology, so it lacks the necessary built-in features to work seamlessly with modern VR headsets.

That said, there is a fantastic application called FlyInside (https://flyinside-fsx.com/) that adds VR support to flight simulators. Unfortunately, FlyInside is only compatible with Flight Simulator X (FSX), Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D, X-Plane and other more recent flight simulators. As a result, it won't work with FS2004.

Given your interest in VR, I would highly recommend considering an upgrade to FSX, Prepar3D, or even newer simulators like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, as they provide more robust support for VR experiences. If you're concerned about your system resources or hardware limitations, FSX might be the best choice for you. FSX offers improved graphics and features compared to FS2004, and FlyInside works flawlessly with it, providing an excellent VR experience.

To get started with FlyInside and FSX, follow these steps:

  1. Install FSX and ensure it runs properly on your system.
  2. Purchase and download FlyInside from their website.
  3. Install FlyInside, making sure to follow the on-screen prompts for proper installation.
  4. Launch FlyInside, and it should automatically detect your VR headset and FSX installation.
  5. Configure the settings within FlyInside to optimize your VR experience based on your system's capabilities.
  6. Launch FSX through FlyInside, put on your Oculus Rift S, and enjoy an immersive VR flight experience!

Please keep in mind that performance may vary depending on your system specifications, so you might need to adjust the settings in both FSX and FlyInside to achieve a smooth and enjoyable VR experience.

I hope this information helps you on your journey into the world of virtual reality flight simulation. Feel free to ask any more questions or share your experiences here. We're always eager to assist and discuss with fellow enthusiasts. Good luck, and happy flying!
