Hi there,
I am looking to getting into airband scanning, I was wondering if anyone here has a scanner, or knows much about them.
My local airport is about 20 km (12 miles) from my house, that is by road, not sure about distance in a straight line though.
Would you have to have quite a powerful scanner to pick up these frequencies?
I am not sure if I would require a desktop scanner.
Thanks,
Jarred 🙂
I hope these helps you

jarred_01,
I bought a Radio Shack programmable scanner about 10 years ago for $299.00. It has the capability to scan 100s of channels and works great with the antenna that came with it, a short runnerized one. Of course the ones made today probably have more capabilities than the one that I bought. But one thing you will need to ahve are the frequesncies for what you want to scan. If you have a Radio Shack in New Zealand they have the frequencies there. I hope that this has helped you.
Regards,
We had a discussion a while back about them, take a look at these.

Thanks again,
Jarred 🙂
