Hello all, been on the board browsing etc...been a simmer for a while, but decided I really want to get into it full force since my car is done being built...but anyways..glad to be here!! thanks for having me!! with that said,
I have been hearing all this talk about downloading the infamous Direct X 10 from VISTA on XP. I have a MAC PRO that I bootcamped XP on...its running great for the most part...nothing too terrible to report...
The combo of the dual core 2.8GHz proc. and 500GB HD along with the 4GB RAM and the wonderful NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics processor with 512MB GDDR3 memory in SLI combo with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor, FSX looks fabulous, especially with the X GRAPHICS and the SP's. I was doing some research and started to manage my drivers with Driver Robot...well...I have all my drivers good to go and ready for furture updates etc...but I really wanted to get in on this DX10 software for XP from project ALKY....I found a site to finally obtain the download and have it now...but just wanted to know if anyone has anything to say about it...ive looked far and wide on here...cant seem to dig it up...
😀 Thanks alot!!
MS never made DX10 for XP, if you do find it (it's out there I've seen the download) don't use it.
It's user made and only Vista and W7 can use DX10 or DX11 properly.
Your card has to be optimised for it and I don't know if yours is, you'd have to check Nvidia's site for that.
I have it (11) and it's not worth all the problems you might have (I don't even have it checked in the Sims settings). Just enjoy yourself as is.
I really appreciate that...I tried to download it in system 32 and it was a copy and paste type of deal....I did it and i got an error msg anyways...so upon taking all the files from DX10 out...it worked properly...and it seems if you you dowload graphics X that it appears to have a DX10 file in its system but idk if its utalized at all...
The nvidia cards work great..they are prepped for the DX10/11
Thanks again!
Even if it has a DX10 capability it won't work in XP.
Go to start/run/ type in "dxdiag" (without the quotes) / and hit OK.
You'll see that it's still DX9.
Your cards have DX10 capabilities, then Vista or W7 will get them to work but as I said I don't see any difference and mine reads DX 11.
I still keep it unchecked in the Sims settings, very few payware aircraft are optimized for DX10.
What about DX11? Is that ok to use? I am using it but heard DX9 is the best to use?
If it's not checked (it shouldn't be) in the Sim then it doesn't matter which you have as long as you have it updated.
As I said, very few aircraft are optimized for anything over DX9 and using 10 or 11 will cause white out of textures.
Ah. Ok. I will make sure I do not have it checked. I am going to assume this would be in the display/graphic portion of the settings?
Right.

Ok, I looked I can't find it. Where do I find the option to check/uncheck it?
In the graphics tab above Lens Flare.
I don't have a DX option above lens flare. Lens Flare is located inside the "global options" column. Lens Flare, Light Bloom, Advanced animations is all I have there...
If this is your card you should check out the drivers.
Since it is a DX10 card and your running Vista the box should be showing.

I have windows 7, and my video card is DX11, so it says.
This is the actual card I have

Nice card!
I read the top post not realizing that it wasn't you.
I have the http://game.amd.com/us-en/unlock_radeonhd4870x2.aspx?p=1 , new drivers and it shows the DX10 box.
Clean out the old drivers and get the latest.
Do you have SP1 and SP2 installed.

Really? You think its a decent card? I thought it would be a lot better but its better then my on board card. I really want that HD look when using FS. I might upgrade again (i just bought that damn card ha).
So since I have a different OS then the OP, my screen will look different then others who are on XP or Vista?
Damn, yours blows mine out of the water with the 3D Benchmark testing. GR.
Wow, my benchmark is horrible!!! I got a 5530 for a graphic score. Hm, could be related to my PSU, I'm running a 500w and its not enough.
