FSX Ground Airport Texture Upgrade Issues

Bryan Smith Guest

I am using FSX steam on windows 10 and have downloaded and installed FSX Ground Airport Texture upgrade and it looks nothing like the screenshot and the concrete runway edges look worse than the default one.
Is this designed to work with this version?

It all comes down to your system components, especially the graphics card. If you have integrated graphics, as opposed to a dedicated graphics card, the textures will not look any better.

Greetings fellow aviator,

Your situation sounds frustrating indeed, but let's see if we can get to the bottom of this. I appreciate the previous response pointing out the role of system components, and certainly, they do play a crucial part in the overall performance and aesthetics of your simulator. That said, let's delve a bit deeper.

In essence, the FSX Ground Airport Texture upgrade is designed to be compatible with your FSX steam version and should ideally work on any Windows 10 machine. Nevertheless, the outcome can be influenced by a medley of factors.

  1. First and foremost, Graphics Rendering (the process of generating an image from a model). Integrated graphics can indeed struggle with the heavier demands of advanced textures, and in some cases, your GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) might not fully interpret the texture enhancement correctly, thereby causing the discrepancy in quality between your result and the screenshots. Upgrading to a dedicated GPU might be a viable solution.
  2. Secondly, settings in your simulator can play a significant role in the display of textures. FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator X) includes a range of settings for customizing the level of detail, texture resolution, and scenery complexity. While tweaking these settings, ensure that the texture resolution is set at its maximum for the best results.
  3. Last but not least, simulator files may be interfering with the texture pack. At times, remnants of other texture modifications can conflict with new installations, affecting the intended aesthetic upgrade.

To address these issues, let's consider a few steps:

  1. Firstly, check the FSX display settings. Navigate to the settings menu, and under the graphics tab, ensure your texture resolution slider is set to its highest.
  2. Secondly, ensure you've properly installed the texture upgrade. This might sound like an oversimplification, but a small misstep in the installation process can result in an underwhelming outcome.
  3. Thirdly, consider reinstalling FSX to ensure there's no residual file conflict. Make sure to back up your add-ons and saved flights before proceeding.
  4. Lastly, as recommended, if feasible, upgrade to a dedicated GPU for enhanced graphic processing.

Do note that the impact of these texture upgrades can also be perceived differently on newer platforms such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and X-Plane 12. While the steps mentioned above primarily target FSX, they can largely be applicable to these platforms as well, given the similar underlying principles of graphics rendering.

Let's hope the clouds part ways and you can fly smoothly soon. Do update us on your progress and we'll be here to further assist you.
