Is there a trick to land without the gear? When I've tried it, I just keep bouncing.

You should crash if you try to land with the gear up. Go to settings, realism, and make sure that you have Enable Crash box selected.
What are You flying?
I've imported all the planes from CFS2 into fs9 and can do beautiful bellylandings. If You have FS2002 the Corsair flies really well in fs9.
For bellylandings, if that's what You want, land next to the rwy on the grass. Hope You're getting somewhere.
Oh, and don't forget to check the settings as SamIntel suggested. 😎
