Pitot heat and Anti-Ice

Odyssey Guest

When and what for should you use pitot heat and anti-ice. I've heard something about ice being on your wind screen but I've never had that.

I don't think these features work in FS. at least they don't make any difference to me....

Turn on anti-ice system and/or pitot heat when flying in the clouds with a temperature below 0 degrees Celsius (simple answer). You will only get Ice if you or a program like Fspassenger, assigns a Icing layer within the atmosphere. You won't get windscreen Ice in FS.🙂

it is not true that they do nothing
if you do not switch on the pitot heat and it gets below freezing your airspeed indicator will stop working after a time because the pitot tube is iced up.

I've tried flying in extremely cold weather without the de-ice system on to see if the flight dynamics change due to ice on the wings, and so far I haven't seen any difference. See:

I agree; several times I've had my pitot tube freeze and had to turn on pitot heat to get the airspeed indicator to work again.

But anti-ice-- never happened to me.
