I have a Radeon graphics card with 128MB of RAM. I use Ultimate Traffic and Ultimate Terrain, and the sim gets VERY choppy over busy airports like JFK.
What card upgrade do you guys recommend for smooth frames at busy airports (least expensive that will do the job)?

I personally use an Albatron Nvidia 6800Ultra and im very satisfied.
Tell me this. I don't have much money to spend. If I spent $130 or so to replace my 128MB video card to an ATI Radeon 256MB card (not these $350-$400 top of the line cards), would this solve my choppiness issues at busy airports?
Howard what ATi Radeon card do you own? How much Ram does your computer have? What's your processor speed, type?
Need more info.... ❓
AstroSteve 😉
I have the ATI Radeon 9200c 128MB card (this was the card that was factory installed by Compaq).
My computer is a Compaq Presario P4 2.60 GHz with 512MB RAM.
getting 1gig of memory will help too
Upgrade your memory to 1gb and see the results. Then start to think of your VGA.
Oooopppsss....it seems that while i was writing my post Atreyu has post his.Anyway we agree 😉
The memory will help, but I truly believe it's NOT his major problem. The 9200c is one of the worst mistakes ATi made in making a card. They know it and the 9200 series was quickly discontinued.
Howard I would look at ridding yourself of that card. I am an avid ATi fan. I would recommend looking at newegg.com for a replacement. You don't have to spend a whole lot to get a far more superior card. Maybe $100-$175 range should get you a late model 9800 Pro or even an X600 or something.
I would assume you have an AGP slot. Be careful when shopping for a card now that PCI-Express is out it can be confusing. Make sure it's an AGP card. Also check Ati.com for latest Catalyst drivers, I believe 5.9 is now out. Driver updates will keep performance higher.
If you have any questions or need help send me a PM, I would be glad to help.
